Tub racers, potty racers and Hernando Desoto
The boys and I went to an interesting attraction this week. We met my mom, my sister-in-law Hanlon, nephew Spencer, and niece Abby at Desoto Caverns. I've been to Desoto Caverns many times in my life but things have changed quite a bit in those 30 or so years. It used to be the caverns, some picnic tables, and a large wooden ship that you could climb and play on. Now those things are still there but a few things have been added. I guess the owners decided the historical value wasn't enough to attract the crowds, and so they made a few changes. Now there are enough child friendly attractions to make you take out a second mortgage to pay for it all. Desoto Caverns is the proud owner of 6 or 7 coin operated rides (a horse, a train, Batman's car, 2 Flintstone cars, and I think I saw 2 old timey type cars), putt-putt golf, a water balloon war(you decide if you want to be in the Indian tee-pee or in the fort and then start throwing water balloons at the other people), a water squirting maze, a big maze with 4 checkpoints you have to get through, or you can go through the maze with waterguns, paddle boats, go-cart pedal cars, a race track with battery powered kiddie cars(a Hummer, Mustang, or Corvette-but the Corvette had seen better days), a basketball hoop course, a bow and arrow target practice area, a rock climbing wall obstacle course, a cave crawl(you crawl through tunnels in a big box), and my personal favorites.....the tub racers and potty racers. Hernando Desoto is probably rolling in his grave! Needless to say, Aidan and Spencer had a blast. Aidan's favorite thing was playing in a stream by the big old ship. Asher was great(as usual), he slept during much of the cavern tour...it gets dark, he gets sleepy. He enjoyed the stream also, and he was very amused by his older cousins and brother. Nan packed a picnic lunch for us, the kids played all day, and we had a wonderful time. Aidan has asked several times when can he go back. Hope you enjoy the pictures!
In case you were concerned about our power and gas services being cut off...I did get them paid with no interruption in service. I also discovered that last month I paid an extra payment on my car. I'm not sure how I get out the door some days.
