Out of the mouth of a babe
Aidan says some of the funniest (and honest) things.
This morning, as he was getting ready for school, Aidan noticed my belly peeking out from under my shirt(these days it peeks out quite a bit) and he just starting laughing. He patted my belly and told me how fat it was getting. At least he didn't tell me to cover up that "crazy big belly", that was the comment I got last week. It's a good thing I don't have a complex about myself!
Each week at school the kids are learning a different letter of the alphabet. So, at home we talk about the same letter, friend's whose names start with the letter, words in general, foods, colors, whatever. On the way to school I was quizzing Aidan on words that started with the letter d. It is a very short trip to school, maybe 2 miles. However, in that short trip, he told me to please stop asking him questions and just drive him to school. What do you say to that? When I pick him up I always ask him what he did. I try to ask specific questions, not ones that can be answered with a simple yes or no. At least once a week I am told "Momma, I'm just so tired of talking" and this is after about 2 questions. I guess it's the teacher in me that wants to pull out my hair and then go quiz his teacher about his day. Derek says it's my desire to control. He's probably right about that one. At least I am not alone, the other mom's with sons never know what is going on at school either.
Aidan likes to act out certain scenes in his favorite movies, Polar Express being at the top of the list right now. I'm usually pretty impressed with his acting but not today. I heard him acting out a scene from Futurama. Now, for those of you not familiar with this cartoon, let me say that this is a Daddy cartoon. I have banned several Daddy cartoons from Aidan and now Futurama has been added to that list. If you have seen the episode where Fry and Bender sign-up for the army to get the discount card, well, that was Aidan's episode to act out. I heard Aidan saying (luckily to no one) to "kiss his shiny metal ass". This was one of those times that I was SO happy not to be out in public! We had a nice chat about what he said ("But momma, I didn't say it, Bender said it") and why we don't say that, even if Bender did say it. Daddy got a phone call, and after his initial chuckle, readily agreed that Futurama is banned. This just gets added to the fact that Aidan knows the words to "Stacy's Mom" by Fountains of Wayne and has made up his own version of "White and Nerdy", a parody song by Weird Al(which is one of the funniest videos I have ever seen in my life, look it up on the net). I guess it could be worse.
Today Aidan and I went to get flu shots. I tried not to make a big deal about it, I just told him we were going to take some medicine, not exactly a lie. We went to church to get them so Aidan could watch me get the shot in hopes that it would ease any fear he might have. When we got there he very quickly noticed what was going on and said "Momma, those people aren't taking the medicine in their mouth." It was down hill from there but he actually did much better than I expected. It also helped that there where about 20 grandmothers in the room who kept telling him what a big boy he was and they ALL had a piece of candy in their purse that they thought he deserved. Of course momma also had promised a new toy so that eases any pain of a shot. Bribes are a great thing.
Tomorrow we are going to a farm with his school class so it should be an interesting day!
