Aidan's pictures

Happy belated Valentine's Day! We had a busy one, especially since Aidan was on a sugar high most of the day. There is no telling what all he ate at school that day but he was going non-stop all afternoon and night. We continued the sugar high with 2 cupcakes at church that night but he somehow managed to fall asleep later. We had a full week with school, church, going to Pops and Namaws', Nan coming for a visit and a friend coming over to play. Derek and I and the boys watched a movie, Open Season, Friday night. It was a funny movie. Derek and Asher fell asleep but Aidan and I enjoyed it. Aidan and Pops spent Saturday together and they went to see the model train club display. They go so often that I think the men that work on the model train know Pops and Aidan by name. Derek and Aidan went and played laser tag Sunday afternoon with some friends and it seemed to be a success. Derek was very proud of himself for being ranked number 1 on the 9 person team but sweet Aidan was number 9. It didn't seem to bother him a bit but he did get a few shoots in on his daddy! Derek and Aidan have also been spending time playing a Playstation game. It is a game based on Star Wars but the characters are made of legos. It's a great game for a younger child, or a mother that isn't very good at video games. Aidan and I were on the same playing level last week but after watching him and Derek play tonight I've decided I need to practice a bit more.

We spent all day playing with friends. This morning we went to a friend's house for a play group and then a friend came over this afternoon to play. Aidan will get a good nights sleep tonight. Asher started eating baby food this weekend, he LOVES applesauce and pears but isn't so fond of sweet potatoes. I can't seem to put the pears and applesauce in his mouth fast enough, he is a very opinionated eater. I'll have to work in a few more foods this week.

Enjoy the pictures, Aidan was the photographer. The thing Nan is holding was a gift from our friend Liz. It's like a chia pet and Aidan has really enjoyed watering it and checking on the "hair" growth each day, thanks Liz!

Times keeps on slipping...into the future

We just returned from a wonderful visit with family in Indiana. We (me, Aidan, Asher, Namaw and Pops) drove up Thursday and returned Sunday. We got to see most of the Hawkins side of the family(2 were returning from a Disney trip and 1 lives in San Juan-that must be like living in paradise!) but most importantly we got to see the newest member of the Hawkins family and everyone got to see the newest member of our family. Aidan had a great time, he got to play in the snow in addition to playing with all his cousins and aunts and uncles. He was uncharacteristically shy but he warmed up eventually. We got to meet baby Grant on Friday as well as visit with other family members that stopped by. On Saturday we(me, Aidan, Asher and Namaw) drove to Indianapolis for a baby shower in honor of Grant where we saw the rest of the family. Again, Aidan was very shy but he got over that after a bit.

We hadn't been to Indiana since last summer so it was really nice to see everyone. Grant is as cute in person as his pictures and he seems to be a very good baby. His mom did have a rough couple of nights but I hope all is better now. Aidan loved Grant from the second he saw him and probably kissed him a thousand time over the weekend! Asher and Grant are only 2 months apart but at that age it is such a big difference. Grant is still in that sweet newborn stage when they sleep so much, make cute little facial expressions for no reason, his knees are still tucked under him in the fetal position, his eyeballs roll around when he's trying to focus, and he has the cute little body stretch when you hold him up. Asher had all those just a few weeks ago and they have so quickly given way to other abilities. He sticks his tongue out(even if he isn't sure what he's doing), he's beginning to see far off objects and notice his toys(he is even reaching toward the toys), he holds not only his head but his upper body up, and he recognizes voices(he was so happy to hear and see his Daddy last night!) and the best thing is that he's sleeping through the night.

I was kind of sad after holding Grant because I realized that Asher would never be in that cute newborn age again and how quickly he changed and will continue to change. I am very thankful that I get to stay at home with him and see those changes because when Aidan was his age I had already been back at work for a month. Aidan will be 5 soon and starting kindergarten in August. I can't believe he's growing up so fast and it just breaks my heart to think how quickly the next 5 years will pass. One of Derek's cousins is graduating high school this year and I'm not sure what happened to the 12 years that have passed since I first met her. Time passes so quickly that we really should make the most of each second. I'm going to try and remember this the next time Aidan asks me to do something that I really don't want to do just because I feel like what I have going on is more important. Nothing is more important than spending that second with my child.

He's growing!

All of a sudden Asher does not fit in any of his clothes! He is quite the growing boy, all 17 pounds of the little chunk of love! We had an exciting weekend, Saturday the boys and I went to AC. Aidan went to play with his cousins and Asher spent some time with our dear friend Pat. Mom and I and Pat's daughter Liz went to watch my oldest niece in a beauty pageant. Jordan was beautiful and placed as a runner-up. The pictures didn't turn out great but I've posted one of the better ones. The boys and I spent the night with Nan and stayed until after lunch on Sunday. We returned home and went to a friend's house for the Super Bowl. I only watch it for the commercials(sorry to all the relatives in Indiana) and this year I was a bit disappointed. The Dorito's commercials were entertaining but not much else caught my attention.

Not much going on today. Asher was in a momma's baby mood today so not much got done. I did finally finish thank you notes during his one and only 30 minute nap. After Derek got home I went out and did a little shopping. I did not expect Asher to need 6 month size clothes when is only 3 months old! I did find some cute things and Asher slept the entire time I was gone(of course he slept, he was awake all day with me). I'm now off to wake him up and feed him a bottle so he'll sleep through the night, otherwise he'll be awake about 3:30 and I need a full night's sleep!
