Trying new foods

I've said several times that Asher will eat most anything you give him. This has been nice for us considering that Aidan will eat almost nothing you offer him unless it is a hotdog, oatmeal, pop tart, mac and cheese, a McDonald's happy meal, chicken nuggets, apple, grapes, banana, or any type of cookie. It tends to make meals interesting. Well, I have decided that Asher does need to be a bit more selective in his food choices. Yesterday the boys and I went to check on Buster, Namaw and Pops' have been out of town this week so we have been visiting their dog. Namaw had left every dog treat you can imagine for Buster so Aidan had given him two of each. Asher was helping out by checking Buster's bowls and knocking them from the stand so Aidan was trying to pick up the bowls and move the stand, I was turning off all the lights Aidan had turned on in the house and when I returned to the kitchen I was horrified. There was a very happy Asher, on his knees, bouncing up and down, with a dog treat in each hand. I ran to him, yelling(hoping the noise would be distraction enough so he would not put a dog treat in his mouth), I did a finger sweep of his mouth(which was tough because he clenches his teeth every time I put my finger in his mouth), I was relieved to not find a piece of yucky dog treat but then I discovered the meaty stick(this looks like a slim-jim but for dogs) was very moist on the end closest to Asher's mouth and I was disgusted all over again. I had to curl back each chubby little finger from the meaty stick and the rawhide stick, the kid had a death grip on both, but I finally pried them away. I washed his mouth out at the sink, washed his hands and face and then gave him my best "No, No Asher, yucky!" He just smiled and laughed. The whole time Aidan was gagging and saying something about never kissing Asher again. I don't think Aidan will ever be that neighborhood kid that eats dog food on a dare(you know, we all had that weird neighbor kid that would eat almost anything). On the other hand, Asher may be that kid.
