Trick or Treat
After I dropped Asher off at his mom's day out class I went to help with Aidan's Halloween party at school. The kids made picture frames for a craft, had a snack and a mom read a Halloween story to them. It was short but fun. Aidan was so excited that it was Halloween, he had told me that he was going to trick or treat ALL day long. And he was right. His class trick or treated around school and he came home with a bag full of candy. Before we put on costumes to do our night time trick or treating, Aidan, Asher, Mo and myself had an adventure. The family that lives several houses down the road sets up a trick or treat trail every year. Now, this is not a little kid trail, this is a spooky, stuff hiding in the woods, crazy sounds, strobe lights, people dressed up and grab you as you walk by trick or treat trail. Aidan saw them setting up and we decided to check it out during the safe not so spooky daylight hours. He was pretty impressed. He even got to push a witch across a rope suspended above the trail. He touched a few displays, pointed to most of them but told me several times that he was not afraid. Asher enjoyed it also, he grabbed any and everything he could reach. Mo just wanted to sniff stuff. We talked with the people setting everything up and they showed Aidan how some displays worked and told him what it was like at night. We walked back home and I thought that would be it for the trail this year.
After Daddy got home, we loaded in the car and headed to Avery's house for trick or treating. The neighborhood had a parade around the park and then the kids started going for houses. The first house or two was good, but then Aidan had an emotional breakdown. There were too many kids at the doors and he wanted to be first, which was impossible. He cried, got over it, and was able to pull himself together enough to go to a few more houses. He even walked past a very spooky cemetery display and a werewolf to get candy from a witch. The people at that house really enjoyed decorating and dressing up! Aidan and Avery spent most of the night giving out candy and playing in the yard. They were not real concerned about doing their own trick or treating but they were willing to run people down on the sidewalk to give away candy. They even managed to scare a few kids with their over zealous candy giving out behavior.
We managed to be in the car and headed home by 8:30, but Aidan started talking about the spooky trail and wondering if it was still open. It was, and Aidan wanted to go. He couldn't wait to show Daddy all the stuff he had seen earlier. They walked down the trail while Asher and I waited in the car. I couldn't believe it, but Aidan loved it. He didn't get that from me!
