First Day of School!

This past weekend we went to Gulf Shores with some friends and enjoyed some much needed time away. Aidan, Griffin and Emery had SO much fun building sand castles, playing in the ocean, trying to catch various sea creatures and swimming in the pool. With the help of a dad, they did manage to catch two crabs. The second of which (the one in the bucket) was not happy at all. A family down the beach from us caught a baby ray and that was exciting. The pool was fun, Aidan and Griffin enjoyed the not-so-hot hot tub and Aidan loved the fact that the pool was an outdoor pool but swim through a covered opening and it became an inside pool. Emery made some new friends and had fun playing the ever popular pool game of some adult throwing coins into the pool and then the kids frantically try to be the one to find the most coins. She held her own against the older kids! Of course, come Monday, no one wanted to come home but we packed the cars and reluctantly headed home. The traffic was a nightmare! A trip that is usually 4-5 hours depending on the number of bathroom and food stops ended up being about 6-7 hours with only 1 stop. Note to self: NEVER travel on Labor Day!
Tuesday was a big day because it was Aidan's first day of school. It started out a little rocky. He wasn't real happy about taking a bath, we had to take the bandaids off some knee scrapes we got yesterday afternoon racing daddy to the front door, Aidan almost fell getting in the bathtub, he wasn't ready to get out of the tub after a 30 minute bath, his knees then hurt and he needed to be carried, he didn't want to wear tennis shoes to school(which is the required footwear) and when it was time to go he wasn't finished playing trains but somehow we made it out the door and to school on time. You can tell from the picture how our morning was but by the time we got to school he was very excited and had the car door open and was out before the teacher could help. I did get a wave as he was headed in the building. When I picked him up he told me he had a great first day. Aidan also told me that he got to play on the new playground and that he ate a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for lunch but I forgot to send his lunch and someone else brought his lunch. Actually, before I look like a bad mom, I did not forget to send his lunch. His lunch this year is ordered through the school. I also found out he made smiley face cookies with M&M's and that at nap time he tried not to move too much but that another boy in the class moved a lot and got in trouble. Aidan did tell me that he had to sit a few minutes on the bench at play time because he and his friend Aaron climbed on the rocks after a teacher told them not to. We had a chat about following rules and why he should not climb on rocks but Aidan will climb any stationary object so this might not be his last time-out on the playground.
Aidan must have had a great day today because he is currently taking a well deserved nap!
